War is a terrible word…

The death of innocent people – old people, women, children, men who lost their lives.

This is devastation, the loss of a home. And not only.

And have you thought about how many animals died?

Animals that survived in horror from not understanding what was happening, having lost their owners, suffering and dying from hunger, eternal fear and cold?Domestic animals left in destroyed houses to survive or die?

Meet Boney. This dog comes from the long-suffering, destroyed Zatoka, a small resort town on the Black Sea coast, south of Odessa, which was heavily damaged by the war, becoming a real ghost town. She became a symbol of her wartime – a symbol of homelessness, grief, suffering, hunger and deprivation. And also the personification of Ukraine – alone, against the backdrop of ruins, drinking water from a crater, no one needed her. Although in her past life, perhaps, she was the most ordinary dog, had owners… In her life before…

Skinny, sick, miserable, Boney was the only survivor in the area, next to the ruins and craters. Her other brothers in misfortune – cats and dogs – with whom she had previously wandered in despair in search of at least some food, died as a result of the rocket attack.

We found her near one of the craters, scared and extremely exhausted, when we decided to check if anyone had survived the explosion we had witnessed. At first, she was reluctant to make contact, and when she saw us, she tried to hide in the ruins. But she didn’t go far, because rainwater was collecting in the craters, which she drank…

She was hungry a lot, so she started having health problems. And as it turned out later, to make matters worse, Bonye was also pregnant…

But it was impossible to ignore her eyes. And she felt it, so she soon began to trust us.

It was too late to sterilize her and it took a lot of effort to distribute the puppies, feed, vaccinate and get them back on their feet. Alla, our volunteer in Zatoka, made a booth and Boney and the little ones spent the winter in the warmth. That’s how noble they are! How quickly they get used to people and then wait all the time.

Exhausted and unhappy Bonye kept hinting – I want to be with you! And we promised her that we would come back for her and take her away. And she waited for us in the winter for three months, because we promised her that we would come back for her, take her with us and find her a home! She waited! She suffered a lot, but she waited all the time…

We took her in April 2023. We really wanted to do this. And what a surprise it was when she came out to meet us herself! How she always understood the sound of our car engine and came out to meet us from the destroyed house remains an unsolved mystery!

Because of her exhaustion, it was very difficult to pull her out. It was truly a real special operation! But she couldn’t be left there, you understand that! She had to be saved and taken away from there! After all, the next shelling could be her last.

But now all this is in the past. At the moment, Boney is about 5 years old. A beautiful lady, healthy, sterilized, vaccinated, treated for parasites.

Boney is not an ordinary dog. She is a real Leader and soul of our Shelter! Boney is a real friend! Full of energy, smart, kind, gentle and affectionate like a cat. Mega-communicative! Loves people very much, really reaches out for human warmth! And very devoted! And grateful, remembers all the good that was done to her!

We are looking for the best home and family for Bonye – she needs it very much, perhaps more than anyone else!

Pay attention to her! Take her into your home, please! Or at least under guardianship. But not on a chain! Give her a chance and hope. Just not playfully, but FOREVER! For human affection, she is ready to serve her owner faithfully and truly!

And remember – she is very attached and cannot be betrayed.

She survived to teach people to love, giving them an ocean of unconditional love! This dog has seen a lot, and we have a lot to learn from her. She didn’t become embittered, didn’t lose faith in people.

Whatever happens, whoever people you meet, and no matter how much pain they cause you – never become worse than you really are. Find new reasons to move forward. Find in yourself the desire to live and smile. Cherish those who support you. Bonye can teach you all this. Take her into your family! Move, be inspired, laugh. Keep the light in her eyes.
